It is estimated that in the area of Durmitor, which includes the area of the river and the canyon of Piva, around 1,500 plant species are present. Some of them originate from the distant geological past and in this area there are species that are characteristic for a distant ice-age.

The influence of Mediterranean climate at one side and mountain climate at the other side had the influence on the development of interesting and rich flora of this area. So in the canyon of Piva may be found interesting Mediterranean elements (the Piva Canyon is plentiful with wormwood-Salvia officinalis L.) and elements of the mountain climate.And the other endemic plants are characteristic of this area, such as blue lasje - Balkans endemic, and in addition to this, about 150 species of medicinal herbs and honey plants of which are the most characteristic: blueberry, day and night, yarrow, meals, juniper, thyme, dandelion, bear grapes, speedwell, surucica, sallow, oregano .This area is inhabited by over 40 species of edible mushrooms and various decorative flowers in bright colors.

Forests are a crucial part of this region. Oak forests can be found up to an altitude of 1100 m. Forests with a mixture of white horn-beam, hornbeam, hop hornbeam, black hornbeam, bear hazel and beech forests that can be found from 500m to 1600m.Along the Piva River and its tributaries the fragments of wetland forests (forests of alder and white willow) and black pine forest with a fragmentary layout can be found.
