80 km long, and 1.300 m deep, the Tara Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the world, right after the Colorado Canyon. The canyon is steep, narrow, with sharp sides, which are several hundreds of meters deep. It is also rich in caves of different sizes and appearance; mysterious, deep and shallow, dark and bright. The Tara Canyon is unique, with no equal in the world, by its picturesque and unique relief; by attractive strong flow, by waterfalls and springs (about 15 bigger ones), by many rapids, by its rich flora and fauna, relic and endemic species. Almost every part of the canyon has been given a a special name after its specific chraracteristics and extraordinary beauty. Some of them were given after the natural characteristics of that part of the canyon, some after the legends living in this region from the times immemorial, others, on the other hand, after the events and persons who have had a strong impact. They witness the eternal, indestructible bond of human and the river which has always been challenging him, attracted him, enchanting him. One who visits the Tara Canyon once, and finds themselves on its banks, stays devoted forever.
